DNSFilter: What’s Changing with Our Web Filtering Solution?

By Higher Information Group on October 19, 2026 | Tech Corner

Keeping businesses protected from online threats requires more than traditional antivirus software and firewalls. Web filtering is another important layer of cybersecurity, helping prevent employees from accessing malicious, unsafe or inappropriate websites before those sites can put business systems and data at risk.

At Higher Information Group (HIG), web filtering is one of the tools we use to help protect our managed IT clients. We’re now transitioning from Zorus, our existing web filtering solution, to DNSFilter, a platform that brings together technologies from both companies.

What’s Behind the Transition?

Following DNSFilter’s acquisition of Zorus, the two companies have been working to combine their technologies and capabilities into a unified platform under the DNSFilter name.

As part of this transition, existing Zorus customers, including HIG managed IT clients using the service, are being migrated to the DNSFilter platform.

For our clients, the transition is being managed by HIG, with existing web filtering settings and policies carrying over to the new platform. Most users won’t notice a difference in their everyday experience, although notifications for blocked websites will now display DNSFilter branding.

What Is DNSFilter, and Why Does Web Filtering Matter?

DNSFilter is a cybersecurity solution designed to help businesses control access to websites and reduce exposure to online threats.

Web filtering works by evaluating website requests and blocking access to destinations identified as malicious or restricted by an organization’s security policies.

This provides several important benefits:

  • Protection against online threats: Helps block access to known malicious websites, including those associated with phishing and malware.
  • Reduced security risks: Adds another layer of protection against potentially harmful online activity.
  • Consistent web access policies: Allows businesses to establish rules for the types of websites employees can access.
  • Safer browsing: Helps protect employees and business devices from potentially dangerous online destinations.

While no single security solution can eliminate every cyber risk, web filtering is an important part of a layered cybersecurity strategy.

What Does This Mean for HIG Clients?

For HIG managed IT clients currently using Zorus, the transition to DNSFilter will take place over the coming weeks.

Our IT team is overseeing the process to help ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption. Clients do not need to take any action.
